Yesterday's Fiberal exercise in hypocrisy left me almost speechless.
Here's MPP Dave Levac, Brant, most recently party Whip and supporter of Bryant's 'pit bull' extermination plan. Dave also supported Brantford's ban which predated the Fiberals flight of fancy:
WEARING OF RIBBONS
Mr. Dave Levac: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker: This evening at 6 o’clock in room 228 there will be an event on behalf of the World Society for the Protection of Animals, and we’re all invited to see an award that’s being given out. I would seek unanimous consent of this House, for today only, to wear a ribbon to designate such an event that’s happening this evening. It’s in favour of protecting our animals on the planet.
As opposed to protecting their animals on the planet? Our animals on a different planet? Do you mean 'the' planet or 'this' planet, Dave?
It's hard to believe that Levac was a teacher. I wonder what he means by 'animals'?
WSPA looks like a hard-core AR outfit. It would be good to know if they lobby at Queen's Park.
That's almost as funny as this opening statement from McGuilty's Speech from the Throne (hmm...throne....) last week. I guess there's no hypocrite like a thick hypocrite and McGuilty sure fits the profile. So do his supporters.
SPEECH FROM THE THRONE /
DISCOURS DU TRÔNEHon. David C. Onley (Lieutenant Governor): Mr. Speaker, members of the Legislative Assembly, people of Ontario:
Today, it is my privilege to deliver this government’s third speech from the throne.
This is a first for me, as Ontario’s new Lieutenant Governor, and I want to take this opportunity to wish all members of this assembly well in your work.
And I want to extend a special welcome to those of you who are, like me, new to this assembly.
Whatever its flaws, parliamentary democracy represents many of humankind’s highest ideals.
The notion that no person is deemed to be better than his or her neighbour, the rule of law is clearly superior to the whim of dictators, debate is preferable to distemper, and collective wisdom has far more value than individual impulse.
May you be inspired by these ideals—and by the work done by those who came before you.
I presume he doesn't mean those who came directly before them, which was them, since their actions contradicted the principles of democracy.
*Nod to Marjorie for the title idea!
