View Article  DENVER: STILL KILLING DOGS BECAUSE OF THEIR SHAPE
Sonya Dias sent this to me today and I'm posting it with her permission.
I got permission from the owner of this wonderful family dog to send this out months ago, but haven't been able to do it until now as Buddy's story still makes me cry as now. But I just wanted you to know what is still going on in Denver--the killing of good family dogs. Buddy was a mellow, beloved family Staffordshire Bull Terrier (sort of a little mini pit bull) who was eleven+ years old. The picture of him at home was taken several years ago when he was a bit younger. He grew up with the children of the family and his life was pillows and sofas and family play.

The second picture was taken of Buddy at the shelter (see the gray in his muzzle?) just before he was killed on Friday, July 27, 2007--yes, the night of our fundraising party--for nothing other than how he looked. He was just a little guy and very sweet. Luckily, there were some heros at the shelter who played ball with him and gave him burgers and chicken almost every single day he was there to make his life bearable before the end. I imagine he was wondering where his family was and why he was in that hellhole when his life before had been ease and snuggling rather than the hard concrete floor and constant noise. All the people who visited him and played with him at the shelter said he was a very good ball player.

Rest in peace little Buddy.
Sonya
