Old Brok died yesterday at the age of 16. Sam has a memorial picture on her website. Well, old fella, I'm sorry you didn't live to see the Ontario ban overturned but you (and the others like you) were all the reason we needed to keep going. Sleep well. Tuesday, January 30

Uh-oh...looks as though Lord Dork has the UK dog wardens steaming mad. Keep the heat on, Sue, and let us know when he's cooked!
DOG WARDENS HIT BACK AT LORD BAKER OF DORKING
In an open letter to Lord Baker Susan Bell takes issue with claims from him that the Dangerous Dogs Act is not being implemented properly by the wardens, and that they are in some way responsible for recent tragedies involving dangerous dogs. - Letter from the National Dog Warden Association to Lord Baker - "The ability of some individuals and organisations to re-write history still absolutely amazes me! <snip> h/t Nick Wednesday, January 10

Not stitching. Well, good old Kenneth Baker, Lord Baker of Dorking, or 'Dork' as I call him, is flapping his false teeth about 'strengthening' the Dangerous Dogs Act, the infamous piece of half-witted legislation which got most of us into this mess in the first place. There's a good article about this manoeuvre over at the Dog Lover's Blog of K9 Magazine. Sunday, January 7

UPDATE: Spocko's back.
It seems that Spocko is being bullied by the animatrons at Disney. Why? He ratted out (he he) a San Francisco radio station, owned by Disney, that was spewing hatred against identifiable groups. Seems ol' Spocko wrote a few letters to advertisers and apprised them of the cesspool in which their products were floating. They pulled their ads. Then he blogged a couple of audio clips of the hate talk under Fair Use as educational and lo and behold! Disney bagmen - er, I mean lawyers - got his blog shut down. This is very interesting. I wonder if this kind of action might work against my own favourite manifestation of Trash Talk for Trogs, CFRB 1010 in Toronto. Must think about that. Here's the story at FDL. There are some interesting comments too. h/t C&L Saturday, January 6

Lately, I've read editorials and columns written by ignorant politicians (just for a change), most notably in Scotland, regarding the importance of eliminating dogs which were bred to 'hunt and kill' from the pet populations. Hmmm...that would eliminate all Hounds, Terriers, Livestock guards, Gundogs, most of the Nonsporting group and almost all of the Working group. I guess you'd be left with the Toys (but not the Yorkshire terrier, Affenpinscher, Brussels Griffon, Cavalier King Charles spaniel, English Toy spaniel, Silky terrier or Toy Poodle). You'd keep a few in Working if you discounted their Mastiff ancestry, such as Bullmastiff, Newfoundland, St Bernard, Bernese Mountain and Greater Swiss Mountain and there'd be Portuguese Water, Rottweiler, maybe a couple of others. We'd have a few in Nonsporting (Lhasa Apso, Chow, Keeshond, Schipperke), maybe some in the Herding group depending on your definitions and that would be about it. Sounds like a brilliant bloody idea.

Well, here's an interesting piece about how easily 'news' can be fabricated and presented as factual. There's an error, it's 'baring their teeth', not 'bearing' but this isn't the first place I've seen that mistake lately, it's also appeared in MSM reports. Surprised? Don't be... h/t Buster |

The president of the National Dog Warden Association has leapt to the defence of her members in light of recent criticisms levelled by Lord Kenneth Baker, the former Home Secretary who introduced the Dangerous Dogs Act, at dog wardens.
