Note: A reader from the Maritimes reported on a disgusting radio show program she had heard. Below are some excerpts from the email.
I had the unfortunate experience of having the radio tuned to 88.9 FM Saint John, NB this am when the talk show host, Andrew Krystal (this show is broadcast by 95.7 FM, Halifax but their server is down so I can't provide a link), announced that we should "exterminate all aggressive breeds like Pitbulls, Dobermans and Rottweilers" in the Maritimes. He stated that Ontario had banned pitbulls and so should the Maritimes. His talk show over the next hour was dedicated to this. He had a fellow by the name of Fred Patterson (this could be Fred from Humble and Fred, who recently lost his job with 99.9 FM in Toronto) call from Ontario to back him up.
Fred from Ontario said, "all those aggressive breeds should be taken out of the picture", "pitbulls are more susceptible to turning on you", "in Toronto we are seeing constant pitbull 'attacks", and "people with bigger brains than you and I have decided these dogs are different". He also stated, "anyone who gets a 'pitbull' should see an analyst" and that if a pitbull attacked his kid the dog would be "shot on sight and hung up on a tree" "shot on sight and hung up on a tree" he repeated the statement.
Fred also stated that "all pitbull owners are imbeciles" , and actually called a caller "an idiot" who needed "psychological evaluation". He repeatedly stated, "this breed is dangerous and can go at any minute", and "you never see a normal guy with one of these dogs' and "they are gutless just like their owners".
The talk show host, Andrew Krystal had this to say when a caller told him breed specific legislation was racist, " I'm calling your dog a ni--er (he said it, I won't type it) then" and "you're an imbecile".
There's more, but you get the idea.
I call this spewing hatred against two visible minorities while trying to hide behind the right to freedom of opinion.
I'm told complaints have been lodged with the CBSC and the CRTC by a few people and if I had my druthers, this guy Krystal would be out of a job and both he and his buddy 'Fred from Ontario' would never work on the radio again.
I'm reminded of radio station CHOI which was not granted a renewal of its broadcasting licence last year.
The broadcast regulator says remarks by the pair included harassing a rival radio host, making disparaging comments about African students at Laval University, and calling for the euthanizing of psychiatric patients.
"...The station's hosts were relentless in their use of the public airwaves to insult and ridicule people," the regulator said in its decision
Were I the station manager of Halifax's 95.7 FM, I would ditch Krystal before things start to heat up. Even Howard Stern, the guy who invented this type of radio show, wouldn't have spouted the garbage this obnoxious dweeb put over the airwaves this past Monday.
